Confidence - Believing in your abilities

Confidence is believing in yourself and your ability to succeed. There is a thin line between too much or too little confidence. If you have too much confidence you can be perceived as cocky. If you have too little confidence, you can be perceived as possessing low self esteem. Finding the right balance of confidence is the key.

Never be so confident that you become condescending and it appears that you look down on people. Be confident and humble at the same time. You ask, how can you be confident and humble at the same time? Being humble is about being modest. It is possible to be confident and modest at the same time. Flaunting your confidence is not necessary. When you flaunt your confidence the question becomes, “Is he/she really confident or does he want us to believe they are confident?” “Are they covering up a bigger problem?” If you are confident in yourself and your abilities then you do not need to prove it to anyone else. Confidence is about feeling good and doing well.

Self-esteem vs self-confidence

Self esteem is how you feel about yourself overall

Self confidence is how you feel about your abilities.

Loving yourself improves your self esteem and in turn your confidence is boosted.

It is also important to set realistic goals. Make sure they are attainable. Unattainable goals can kill your self confidence.

One of my favorite bible verses is Psalm 139:14

I will Praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

This verse is a personal affirmation for me. It becomes important to encourage yourself. It is always good to have someone to encourage you but learn how to encourage yourself. Self encouragement supports self confidence.

Let me leave you with this; in order for people to believe in you, you first must believe in yourself. Have full confidence in your abilities.
